“As a kid I grew up watching Spaceballs, my favorite part of the movie was when Barf said ‘They’ve gone to plaid!’ The idea of plaid speed always intrigued me. This is actually what lead me to science and my research in the field of light wavelengths. Visible light travels at a different speeds depending on its color which is actually its temperature. My goal was to find a way for light to travel faster, ultimately leading to Plaid Speed. By arranging wavelengths in a pattern that could only be described as plaid I am able to combine their speed resulting in light being able to travel faster than… well, the speed of light. Typically the speed of light is 299,792,458 meters per second. By arranging light in a my plaid pattern, light can reach 432,831,629 meters per second. That is nearly a 31% increase in speed. I have been experimenting with other plaid patterns to find the most efficient. My discovery is going to open the doors to new possibilities in space travel. Won’t be long before Plaid Week is intergalactic.”
