After a long day what is better than coming home to nice warm meal served on plaid?

The Wilson’s a family from Pawnee, Indiana have decided to add a plaid table cloth to their Plaid Week festivities. Betty Wilson, mother of two, told us “we put out a flag on the Fourth of July and a tree for Christmas, but had nothing to commemorate Plaid Week. Thats why I decided on the table cloth. The dinning table is the center of our family; it is where we come together as a family. This is where we eat, play games and talk. In many ways I feel like the dinning table is metaphor for plaid.”

Greg Wilson, Betty’s husband had a slightly different take. “Plaid Week? Whats that? Is this another one of those crazy thing Betty found on the interweb? I don’t care what is on the table as long as there is food. The table cloth could be any color, shape, size. If you ask me a table cloth is just another thing that has to be washed. And guess who has to fold the thing when it comes out of the wash? Yeah me.”

However you celebrate plaid we solute you. Don’t forget to drop us a line at david@plaidweek.com, we want to hear about your Plaid Week.

We spoke to known economist Ryan Hoffman about this, here are this thoughts. “For decades our economies have been based on the gold standard. For just as long economists have been wondering what’s next. I think our days of wondering are over; it’s plaid! The Celts got it right, we just got too wrapped up in the glitz and glamour of gold to realize it.”

Tomorrow when the commodities markets you know we will be selling our gold in favor of plaid.

Laptop maker Lenovo announced their new IdeaPad U350 today. The IdeaPad features a 1.4GHz Core 2 Solo SU3500 processor. Compared to other portables on the market this model may seem like nothing special. What makes it so special is that it is the company’s first Plaid-Book. For the last year netbooks have been all the rage in the computer industry. What sets the Plaid-Book apart from a notebook or netbook is a mixture of its distinctive plaid body and that it can only be used to view plaidweek.com.

Lenovo’s VP of Product Development Igo Yatzu put out the following statement today. “We are proud to announce the new IdeaPad U350. This is our first step towards Plaid friendly products. I will admit we were a bit late jumping on the netbook bandwagon which is why we wanted to be the first to put out a Plaid-Book. A lot of research went into this product; we wanted to do this right. I had our whole R&D team spent 18 months in kilts to get a better sense of plaid. Finding a kilt is not easy in Beijing. Beijing may be home to 13,000,000 but only few Scots. Luckily we found Wen MacZheng a Chinese native who has fully embraced Scottish culture. MacZheng is the sole participant in China’s Highland Games, he is hoping to finally take first place in 2011. Wen MacZheng served as our plaid guru for this product.

The first thing you notice is the plaid exterior finish. I feel it is a bold and modern interpretation of the Macdonald clan pattern. Designing this pattern was not cheap, in fact 90% of our R&D budget went towards it. This set the tone for the project. Netbooks are all about surfing the web and getting things done. This can be distracting to a user and take away from the plaid exterior. It is for that reason we decided the Plaid-Book could only be used to view plaidweek.com. I feel we have a real hit on our hands especially when combined with the popularity of Plaid Week.”

The first Plaid-Book is expected to hit store shelves next month.

Plaid pants, we have all known and loved them for years, maybe even took them for grant-it unless you are Vince Iwakami of Vancouver, British Columbia. Vince’s plaid pants are not your typical pants; they poses a magical quality that allows Vince to sit while wearing them without having to use a chair. Yes you read that correctly.

“I picked up the pants at Stitches to get ready for Plaid Week not thinking anything of it until several weeks later. I was at Tim Horton’s one night, my friends and I go there every Friday night after badminton practice. I always get the Timbits (bite-sized donuts to Americans). Like usual we could not find anywhere to sit. As a joke I pretended to sit and to my surprise my weight was supported. At first I thought my extra calf workouts had been paying off. The next week like clockwork we went back to Timmie’s, this time I was wearing jeans. I pulled the same fake seat maneuver which was a crowd please last time, this time I fell right on my rear, I looked like such a hoser. It was at that moment I realized those plaid pants were magical.”

News of Vince’s magical plaid pants spread quick. It was not long before reporters from the Vancouver Sun were camped outside Iwakami’s house hoping to catch a glimpse. Upon hearing the news Ken Kwapis, director of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, bought the story rights to the pants. It is rumored that Kwapis paid north of $80 million for them. When asked why so much, this is what Kwapis had to say “Umm… did you hear these pants are magical plaid, you can not just make this stuff up. An opportunity like this only comes around once in a blue moon. It is going to be an instant money maker. Everyone wears pants, everyone has pants, EVERYONE LOVES PANTS! If my experience from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants taught me anything, it was that pants sell movie tickets. When combined with the fact this movie will be about plaid pants, there is no way this can fail. I woke up yesterday and had to pinch myself, I could not believe I have had the good fortune to make so many movies about pants.”

Unfortunately none of my plaid pants have magic powers.

In 2004 Brawny Paper Towels decided to change their spokes character to the plaid wearing “new” Brawny Man (pictured above right). Everyone knows the denim shirt wearing, Chuck Norris-esque Brawny Man (pictured above left) that has graced their packaging for 30 years. Why the change?

Denim may have been okay in the 70’s but perceptions have changed; today plaid is king. Think about it, how often to you see a Denim Dan or Canadian Tuxedo walking down the street and quickly nudge a friend or even a strange to share a chuckle.

Georgia Pacific, makers of Brawny Paper Towels’ VP of Marketing, Jim Phillips, had this to say on the change. “We think it is for the better to go with the Plaid Brawny Man. It was really a no brainer, Denim or Plaid? You don’t need a degree in rocket science to know you choose Plaid. Sure Jay Leno and Chuck Norris may like the old Brawny Man for obvious reasons (in his off time Leno always wears a denim shirt). We spent years and millions of dollars trying to find what consumers wanted; more absorption? more sheets per roll? larger sheets? In all of our focus groups the result was unanimous; a Brawny Man in Plaid.”

This is not the first time the Brawny Man wore plaid. Originally he wore plaid shirt (pictured right) similar to that of the current Brawny Man but the PMRC (the group responsible to parental advisory labels on albums) felt it was too controversial. Yes, controversial. Why the controversy over plaid, that is still a mystery to us.

With rumors swirling around a new iPhone being announced in the coming weeks, the impending release of Palm’s highly anticipated Pre, and a new Android phone coming to T-Mobile, HTC does not want to be left out of the party. HTC, one of the largest manufacturers of smartphones and the maker of the gPhone has a press event scheduled for the end of the month.

Based on the announcement we suspect the event will be for a new Plaid based phone. Industry insiders are referring to this device as the pPhone. The pPhone features a 4 inch screen, full keyboard, 128 gb of memory, HSDPA, GPS, and an accelerometer. What sets the pPhone apart from the rest of herd is that it does not actually make calls, browse the web or even give directions. The pPhone is strictly for viewing plaid. Industry insiders are already touting this as the greatest phone ever made.

Rick Thompson of the Cell Phone Insider says “The Plaid Phone is a monumental release. Finally we are free of the constrictions of modern communication and can focus on what is most important in a phone; the ability to view photos of plaid.”

Keep checking back for more on the pPhone and to find out it’s release date. Insider analysts expect the pPhone to be released in the 3rd week of February 2010 to coincide with Plaid Week 2010.

Tired of boring car interiors? Looking for something that is a true expression of your personality? Have you seen the Volkswagen GTI?

The Volkswagen GTI is hands down the plaid-est car in the market. Don’t believe us? Take a look at the interior photo above. With seats covered in VW’s classic Interlagos Plaid, how could any true plaid enthusiast be seen driving anything else?

VW also sells matching scarfs and beenie if you are interested in car interior camouflage.

Ever wonder what plaid smells like? Me neither but for those of you who do you can now rest easy. Looks like the folks at Burberry have figured out a way to bottle the actual scent of plaid. I have yet to smell this myself, but my guess is that is smells like teen spirit with a hint of jasmine. Check it out for yourself and if you actully do catch a whiff let us know what it smells like.
