Is this what passes for news in Miami? Really Miami Herald?? Is there nothing more news worthy going on? Have they not heard of a place called Haiti? A little something called Bank Reform? The impending launch of the Apple Tablet?

With everything going on we are glad The Miami Herald has the time to pick on Marco Rubio, a senate candidate in Florida, for wearing plaid. Yes, plaid of all things.

We have two things to say about this matter:
Marco Rubio – we know nothing about your politics or beliefs but we support your decision to wear plaid.
Miami Herald – we will never buy your paper and would like to encourage our readers to do the same.

Last week we broke the news of Plaid Cymru’s plans to turn Wales into a “Plaid State.” It seems like the Dutch read PlaidWeek.com regularly, as they have started to turn Holland plaid (photo above). Henricus Cornelius Johannes Lodewijk “Harry” Borghouts, Noord-Holland’s Queen’s Commissioner, could not be reached for a comment but local citizen Lodewijk Winchel was.

“There is no way we could let the Welsh out-plaid us. When we read on Plaid Week what Wales had planed we ran out and started planting tulips in a plaid pattern right away. I am sure you are asking why. We have a saying in Holland ‘als de hemel valt, krijgen we allemaal een blauwe pet’ or ‘if the sky comes down, we’ll all be wearing a blue cap’ for you English speakers. I think this really sums up our actions. Everyone sees wooden clogs and thinks Dutch but we want to change that we want plaid to be synonymous with the Dutch. Have you ever tried to walk in those things? They are not flexible, they are rigid and leave you with splinters. Plaid just has so much more to offer. All of the Netherlands’ Queen’s Commissioners have been discussing how to make Plaid Week a national holiday.”

Plaid’s Aerona Nefis was less than thrilled “those Dutch are such band wagoners. We are truely plaid and have been so for years; not because it is popular in the States or because so many automakers are turning to plaid interiors. We are Plaid; it is in our blood, we don’t just bleed red but perpendicular stripes of red, white, blue and green.”

Looks like the race to go plaid is really heating up. We will be monitoring this situation closely and bring you updates as it develops.

Wales of course. Plaid Cymru or just Plaid as the kids would say is one of the largest political parties in Wales. Plaid has 5 goals:

1. To promote the constitutional advancement of Wales with a view to attaining independence for Wales within the European Union.
2. To ensure economic prosperity, social justice and the health of the natural environment, based on decentralist socialism.
3. To build a national community based on equal citizenship, respect for different traditions and cultures and the equal worth of all individuals, whatever their race, nationality, gender, colour, creed, sexuality, age, ability or social background.
4. To create a bilingual society by promoting the revival of the Welsh language.
5. To promote Wales’s contribution to the global community and to attain membership of the United Nations.

Why the independent Welsh state? We recently sat down with the Plaid Party’s Aerona Nefis, MP of Foreign Affairs. “Simply the rest of the United Kingdom does not get it. They walk around in their tweeds, houndstooths, corduroys and even denim. Did they learn nothing from the Brawny Man Fiasco?” she said with a tone of utter disgust. “For decades we have been doing a lot out outreach to schools to make connections with today’s youth. It is paying off too, in recent years we have seen a lot of growth within the party and our independence movement. Like we always say ‘Dal ati!, Daliwch ati!’ (Keep at it!, Don’t give up!)”

Plaid’s plans don’t end at independence, Aerona went on to say “once we have obtained independence we have even bigger plans for Cymru (Wales). We want Cymru to appear plaid when it is viewed from space or on Google Maps. We have teams of architects and developers devising plans to give our country sides and cities the appearance for plaid. We are going to have to reshape The River Taff but if will definitely be worth it. Everyone uses Google Maps which is why it is so important our statement of plaid is visible from the website.”

Aerona Nefis also told us of her plans to make Plaid Week a national holiday. All of their plans make sense to us. Our only unanswered question is why is their logo not plaid?
