We spoke to known economist Ryan Hoffman about this, here are this thoughts. “For decades our economies have been based on the gold standard. For just as long economists have been wondering what’s next. I think our days of wondering are over; it’s plaid! The Celts got it right, we just got too wrapped up in the glitz and glamour of gold to realize it.”

With everything going on we are glad The Miami Herald has the time to pick on Marco Rubio, a senate candidate in Florida, for wearing plaid. Yes, plaid of all things.

We have two things to say about this matter:
Marco Rubio – we know nothing about your politics or beliefs but we support your decision to wear plaid.
Miami Herald – we will never buy your paper and would like to encourage our readers to do the same.

The “Scarecrow Bandit” is a Chicagoland bank robber who received his moniker for his, gardening gloves, broad-brimmed floppy hat, sawed-off wooden broomstick and unfortunate use of a plaid shirt. It is a true shame that plaid is being defiled as if it were polka dots. We here at Plaid Week hope he is caught soon before he can do any further damage to plaid’s good name.

To make matters worse there was a rather long delay for the atrocious “ambulance” to arrive. Even Joe Harper, Del Mar’s chief executive, felt “there’s no excuse for this.” Steve Kenly, owner of Mad for Plaid had this to say, “This is unreal. This is like the Dark Ages.”

It is truly a shame that one of the only race horses we could relate to is no longer with us.

Spectators are reporting the woman pictured above was responsible for causing a breakdown on the carousel ride yesterday evening. A woman, who has been identified as Beatrice Grant, of Ramona forced her way on to ride ignoring the maximum weight guidelines. We spoke to an eyewitness who asked to remain anonymous. “It was like she was possessed. I have never seen such an intense look on a human face. It reminded me of a rabid wolverine attacking a baby alpaca.” Another onlooker had this to say “The woman charged through the line in a gust of plaid.”

Officials cited Grant’s disregard for weight guidelines as the cause for the ride’s breakdown. Unfortunately this was an antique carousel with a rare 1905 motor. Fair officials have sent away to France to get needed part but fear they will not be able to fix the ride before the fair ends.

It is always sad when plaid is at the center of such an atrocity. We feel sorry for all of those who were on the ride at the time of the breakdown. Even though it is an inanimate object it looks like the horse Grant rode suffered the most. Really, look above, that horse is in pain.

“There is no way we could let the Welsh out-plaid us. When we read on Plaid Week what Wales had planed we ran out and started planting tulips in a plaid pattern right away. I am sure you are asking why. We have a saying in Holland ‘als de hemel valt, krijgen we allemaal een blauwe pet’ or ‘if the sky comes down, we’ll all be wearing a blue cap’ for you English speakers. I think this really sums up our actions. Everyone sees wooden clogs and thinks Dutch but we want to change that we want plaid to be synonymous with the Dutch. Have you ever tried to walk in those things? They are not flexible, they are rigid and leave you with splinters. Plaid just has so much more to offer. All of the Netherlands’ Queen’s Commissioners have been discussing how to make Plaid Week a national holiday.”

Plaid’s Aerona Nefis was less than thrilled “those Dutch are such band wagoners. We are truely plaid and have been so for years; not because it is popular in the States or because so many automakers are turning to plaid interiors. We are Plaid; it is in our blood, we don’t just bleed red but perpendicular stripes of red, white, blue and green.”

“I picked up the pants at Stitches to get ready for Plaid Week not thinking anything of it until several weeks later. I was at Tim Horton’s one night, my friends and I go there every Friday night after badminton practice. I always get the Timbits (bite-sized donuts to Americans). Like usual we could not find anywhere to sit. As a joke I pretended to sit and to my surprise my weight was supported. At first I thought my extra calf workouts had been paying off. The next week like clockwork we went back to Timmie’s, this time I was wearing jeans. I pulled the same fake seat maneuver which was a crowd please last time, this time I fell right on my rear, I looked like such a hoser. It was at that moment I realized those plaid pants were magical.”

News of Vince’s magical plaid pants spread quick. It was not long before reporters from the Vancouver Sun were camped outside Iwakami’s house hoping to catch a glimpse. Upon hearing the news Ken Kwapis, director of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, bought the story rights to the pants. It is rumored that Kwapis paid north of $80 million for them. When asked why so much, this is what Kwapis had to say “Umm… did you hear these pants are magical plaid, you can not just make this stuff up. An opportunity like this only comes around once in a blue moon. It is going to be an instant money maker. Everyone wears pants, everyone has pants, EVERYONE LOVES PANTS! If my experience from The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants taught me anything, it was that pants sell movie tickets. When combined with the fact this movie will be about plaid pants, there is no way this can fail. I woke up yesterday and had to pinch myself, I could not believe I have had the good fortune to make so many movies about pants.”

Unfortunately none of my plaid pants have magic powers.
